What exactly is reformer Pilates?
So, you’ve bought your cutest Pilates outfit, you’ve invested in a pair of our Pilates grip socks, now is the time to head to the studio and take on the reformer. But  wait…what exactly is reformer Pilates? Let’s break it down in a way that’s easy and less intimidating than that viral TikTok workout you scrolled past.

The Pilates Reformer Machine: The Basics
Despite their appearance, the reformer machine is not some sort of medieval torture device. The reformer machine is your new bestie for sculpting and toning up those muscles. This article covers:

  • The Reformer Machine 101
  • Footwork Series
  • Feet & hands in straps (yep, you heard that right)

The Reformer Machine 101
Most studios will offer beginner or foundation-levels classes, which means you can start things off at a steady pace. Don’t stress if you can’t remember everything straight away - your instructor guides you with cues and instructions along the way.

Springs: the star of the workout!. Springs provide resistance, which allows instructors to vary the intensity of their workout. Think of the springs like a personal trainer—providing resistance and varying the intensity of your workout. They usually come in different colours, so when your instructor says, "Let’s add a red spring," you’ll know exactly what to do.

Footbar: Think of the footbar like your Pilates steering wheel—it helps you stay in control and work those leg muscles. You’ll place your feet here during most of the footwork exercises

Headrest: Comfort is key! The reformer comes with an adjustable headrest, so if you’re feeling a little off in alignment (we’ve all been there), just ask your instructor to help adjust it to keep things comfy.

Straps: Now here’s where things get fun. Some reformer machines have two loops—one for your hands and one for your feet. Others just have one loop for both. Either way, once you’re strapped in, you’ll be using your arms or legs to push and pull against the resistance from the springs. Get ready to feel those muscles fire up!

Footwork series
It’s time for your LIGN Pilates grip socks to shine! The non-slip grip will help you feel stable and grounded on the footbar, so you can focus on those powerful leg movements without worrying about slipping.
The footwork series involves placing your feet in different positions on the footbar to target a variety of muscles. From heels to toes, you’ll be working everything from your calves to your glutes! Plus, with your trusty grip socks, you’ll feel like a total pro, even in your first class.

To sum it up, Reformer Pilates is an incredible full-body workout that strengthens, tones, and challenges you in ways you never thought possible. And don’t worry—whether you're a beginner or already have some experience, Reformer Pilates is adaptable to any fitness level.

So slip on your LIGN grip socks, get on the reformer and have some fun!
